Four Powerful Points on Self Care

Not many of us realise the importance of self-care until it is too late. We think that indulging in a bit of self-care is selfish and wrong. Its high time to change those thoughts. Self-care is important and essential to our well being. Why? There comes a point in everyone’s lives when we realise that running around the clock, taking care of other people and trying to complete our own set of assigned duties is taking a toll of our minds as well as physical health. When you put up with many years of selfless service, you end up neglecting yourself. Now is the time to understand that it is completely fine to be selfish and take care of yourself. You must keep time for self-care every day. Let us look through a few simple, yet powerful tricks to this end.

Meditate and be mindful of breathing

Meditation is the most effective tool to help heal yourself. Work out your mind with meditation. Keep aside time for helping your mind stay in control. Follow guided meditations to calm your thoughts. Practice controlled breathing and be aware of your breath. It helps a great deal when you focus on your breath. Negative thoughts get washed away as you fill your mind with healing sounds and breath control. This is the first step in healing all those years of neglect.

Bring back your hobbies

As life goes by, most of us give up hobbies and interests that once filled our days with a thrilling sense of achievement. Some of you may love reading. Pick up that book again.  Read to your heart’s content. Remember that there is no one to stop you, except yourself. Dance, sing, listen to music, go ahead and play your favourite sport. Start doing whatever you left behind before the wheels of life turned you into a busy bee. Make time to indulge in the joy of feeling alive.

Pay attention to the little things

Social media is interfering in our lives so much these days. Instead of enjoying the moment, everyone is busy capturing the image. Not only do they take hundreds of photos, but the pics are also updated instantly on different social media platforms. The beauty of the moment gets lost in all that frenzy. Please don’t do that!

The mesmerizing softness of a sunset can leave you speechless if you just allow yourself to enjoy it. Watching a squirrel collect its food and scramble up a tree, counting the stars, listening to the rain pouring down, feeling the slight drizzle of the rain- There is so much to love and cherish in this beautiful world. Leave out the urge to show society your best always. Capture these extraordinary moments in your heart. That’s what counts and those moments are the real treasures you get to keep.

Set your standards and focus on your goals

Many times, we lower our standards for people we love. We give in to their demands and forget that our goals were completely different. If you are someone who has lost sight of all those happy dreams you had as a bubbly teenager, know that its time to brush off the dust, pick up the pieces and start working on your dreams again. Age is just a number, so do not be overwhelmed by the lost years. Any time is a good time to start again. Make a list of your goals, focus on them and go get them all!

PS:-*I need you to remember this*

As you move along in the journey of life, you realise that being your own friend is the best option you have. You can either motivate yourself or bring yourself down. The choice is yours. So why not go for the better one? Keep a list of positive affirmations and force yourself to stick to the choice of being happy. Think positive thoughts and attract all those high-frequency energies straight into your life. You are and you can become the person you have always dreamt of being!
