Five years  back ,I came upon a miracle cure for many physical ailments. Not only did I get relief from physical discomfort, I also found an extraordinary sense of peace and calm. Today, some of us are in the fear of catching the deadly virus as it is still spreading at alarming rates. Staying positive and keeping our bodies healthy is the need of the hour. This is no time to panic. We fall sick mainly when our immunity levels are down. When our immune system is weak, our body is left with less power to resist or fight the attack of microbes. So today, I am going to run you through a few essential food ingredients that can be included in your daily diet to help boost immunity naturally. At the end of the article, I am also going to include a few of my favourite and effective (from personal experience) home remedies that have helped to increase resistance against infections. Lemon

Rich in Vit C and completely packed with anti-microbial properties, lemon is a great lifesaver which when added to your daily diet works wonders. Vitamin  C is necessary for increasing your immunity. Also lemon aids in boosting body metabolism. Hydration improves when you drink lemon juice daily and your skin quality also improves. Regular intake of lemon juice helps keep kidney stones at bay also.

Turmeric

Turmeric has a component called Curcumin. This is the ingredient mainly responsible for the medicinal properties of turmeric. It boosts the immunity of your body highly. Also, turmeric greatly improves signs of depression and helps bring positive changes in Alzheimer’s patients. You can prevent heart disorders and is a great antioxidant. It also has antibiotic powers which help heal injuries and cuts. It is also a good anti-toxic agent. The list goes on and on.

Ginger

This is a personal favourite of mine. Ginger is well known for its anti-microbial properties.  It’s hard to list the benefits of ginger as there is quite a lot. I will list down the most important ones below. Please note that ginger can be used raw or also as dry ginger (mainly used for the treatment of colds, cough and fever). Gingerol, the active component in Ginger is mainly responsible for its medicinal properties. This helps in curing nausea, morning sickness, muscle pain, osteoarthritis, muscle soreness, heart diseases and also lowers blood sugar. You get great relief from indigestion with regular intake of ginger. Taking dry ginger powder during your menstrual period helps relieve cramps and reduces your discomfort too.

Garlic

Garlic has antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. It is highly nutritive and is used as a natural ingredient to lower cholesterol. Regular consumption of garlic helps to reduce your blood pressure too. Garlic contains the compound called Allicin which has great medicinal properties. Garlic has been used from ancient times to treat liver disorders, Tuberculosis, colic, dysentery, diabetes and many other ailments. Adding garlic to your cooking also increases the taste of the final cooked dish.

Honey

Honey is a natural medicine used in many home remedies. The natural healing power of honey is well known. Honey is full of antioxidants and has anti-bacterial properties too. It gives great comfort when consumed during a sore throat. The digestive tract also benefits from regular consumption of raw honey. The body metabolism also improves when you take honey with warm water early in the morning.

Black pepper

A great antioxidant as well as anti-inflammatory food! Coming from a South  Indian family, I have always used Black pepper while cooking for the family. Black pepper is considered to be a magic spice which is used commonly in dishes. Pepper is effective in curing common colds, fever and throat infections. It is also carminative. Intestinal gas formation is reduced by the regular intake of pepper. Black pepper is also great when trying for weight reduction. But we’ll go into that in another post soon. Increasing your pepper intake has another advantage. The body gets rid of toxins as it gets warmed up and sweat more while having pepper.

Yoghurt or Curd

Yoghurt, as well as homemade curd, is full of probiotics. This means that it contains healthy bacteria which is good for your intestine. The presence of such bacteria help to aid in digestion and keeps the digestive tract healthy and strong. Include curd or yoghurt twice a week in your diet so that your digestive system becomes more immune and resistant to external infections.

Lemon Honey Drink

This is an easy drink with huge benefits.  As we saw in the above list, both the ingredients are filled with Vitamin C and antimicrobial properties. The drink is an immunity-boosting mixture and also increases your body metabolism. Take this daily early morning or at bedtime to see positive changes in your body. It helps reduce body fat, eliminates toxins and detoxifies the body.

Turmeric and honey combination

This is a magic potion that has immense medicinal benefits. When the two products are mixed, you can speed up your rate of healing. The combination is a powerful immunity booster. Taken regularly keeps you safe and protected. More than a cure, it is used as a preventive for several diseases. This is also an effective skincare pack. You may know of several people who have reached the heights of their career, others may have succeeded in acquiring impressive amounts of wealth and so on. However, the real question is -are they really happy?

I was talking to a friend the other day about all the depressing news we were receiving regarding the current COVID pandemic. People all over seem to be losing hope. There has been an increase in the number of suicides, deaths due to heart failure and many more heartbreaking situations. All that got me thinking-Life is so uncertain and with the time we have left, are we all really happy?

I asked myself what makes me happy. Is it money, fame, or something else?   I discovered that I am truly happy with the simplest little things in life. Of course, bigger achievements have their share in creating a good life. However, I think happiness comes from something more. You may not have a great deal of money, or you may not have achieved that dream job yet. Still, real happiness is when you remain true to yourself. Inner peace is the only aspect that leaves you feeling satisfied with life. And to get that genuine feeling of happiness, you must stay true to your values and principles. Treat others equally well. Treat them with dignity and respect. You may not receive the exact treatment back, however, in the long run, being honest and true to who you are, keeps you peaceful.

As for me, happiness is watching the rain drizzle down onto the earth, gazing at the beautiful sky as the sun sets, hugging my kids tight and knowing that they are safe. The smile I get when I cook a tasty meal, the excitement on my kids’ face as they describe a new incident at school, the simplest questions like- How was your day, are your feeling okay- and all those wonderful, touching moments that gently tug at my heart. Meditation is the most effective tool to help heal yourself. Work out your mind with meditation. Keep aside time for helping your mind stay in control. Social media is interfering in our lives so much these days. Instead of enjoying the moment, everyone is busy capturing the image. Not only do they take hundreds of photos, but the pics are also updated instantly on different social media platforms. The beauty of the moment gets lost in all that frenzy. Please don’t do that!

The mesmerizing softness of a sunset can leave you speechless if you just allow yourself to enjoy it. Watching a squirrel collect its food and scramble up a tree, counting the stars, listening to the rain pouring down, feeling the slight drizzle of the rain- There is so much to love and cherish in this beautiful world. Leave out the urge to show society your best always. Capture these extraordinary moments in your heart. That’s what counts and those moments are the real treasures you get to keep.

Set your standards and focus on your goals

Many times, we lower our standards for people we love. We give in to their demands and forget that our goals were completely different. If you are someone who has lost sight of all those happy dreams you had as a bubbly teenager, know that its time to brush off the dust, pick up the pieces and start working on your dreams again. Age is just a number, so do not be overwhelmed by the lost years. Any time is a good time to start again. Make a list of your goals, focus on them and go get them all!

The world has come to a stage wherein staying healthy and fit is the motto for survival. Staying healthy is now the keyword in fitness regimes. More than a beauty conscious population, we now have people who are determined to stay fit and active. In a way, health is co-related to the word fitness. A person who neglects his health and fitness falls ill.

 A healthy body is a person who is in a state of mental, physical as well as emotional well being. He/ She does not suffer from any ailment or pain.

  5. Introduce loads of fruits and vegetables, especially green leafy veggies.
  6. Start physical exercise- if you are a beginner, start slow and steady
  7. Take up walking for a minimum of 30 minutes per day
  8. Give your body proper rest.

How to keep your mind healthy

  1. Give serious thought to Controlling your negative thoughts
  2. Practice mindfulness through Daily Meditation
  3. Start breathing exercises with the help of an experienced Teacher
  4. Believe in yourself- You create your destiny with positive thoughts
  5. Stay away from negativity

  7. Practice self-love and make sure to take care of yourself
  8. Laugh away your worries and spend time with close friends who bring out the smiles in you.

At times, life turns completely crazy and spins in confusing directions. There is chaos everywhere. All of us could do with a superhero in such instances. But how many of you know that you can take control of the situation, Of course,not the external one, we are talking about how you respond. You can face any challenge and overcome difficulties by practicing a few proven techniques .Give yourself some space and start believing in yourself. You have the power to unleash the solutions you are searching for.

Create your own garden of peace

The human mind is a great tool, a powerful one too. The influence your thoughts have on your life is more than you can imagine. All of us have certain dominant thoughts that lay around in our minds constantly. You may be engaged in an activity, however, if you check, you will find that the mind keeps returning to those thoughts whenever possible. So keep thinking positive. The more you focus on good things, happy events- the more positive things you experience. You can create your own garden of peace in your mind. Imagine a calm, serene atmosphere with fresh smells and a lot of abundance in nature. The picture need not be the same for all. If you are not a nature person, think about a place that gives you a lot of peace. Visit this place when your mind gets disturbed. Feel and inhale peace surrounding you.

Keep still as you  focus on the task on hand

For most people, doing one thing at a time is difficult. It feels like wasting time while concentrating on only one thing. Most people are experts in multi-tasking. That’s what they have learnt to do to manage a lot of things. However, in the long run, this becomes stressful and tedious. While smart multitasking enables us to complete our daily tasks effectively, it also takes a toll on our emotional, mental and physical health. So once in a while, learn to take a break. Just try doing one thing at a time. If you are working on an official report, do just that. If you are teaching your kid, concentrate on that. Likewise, every little task for that day should be done slowly and calmly. It makes a huge difference to take one day off from all that hustle and enjoy doing one thing at a time.

There is nothing like a cool breeze to calm your senses. A long walk in solitude gives you the answers to many questions. Physical exercise or other outdoor activities release hormones that eliminate uneasy feelings. Once you exercise your body well, you will be more focused on getting better, both physically and mentally. Take some time off from your busy schedule, say 30 mins, to take a good run or have a long walk. Join a gym or a yoga class and give yourself the benefit of a daily healthy routine. This gives you great results in your appearance and mental well being.

Vent out to a true friend

Everyone has at least one person whom they consider as a true friend. It could be your partner, your parent, a sibling, a close friend, a mentor or anyone who makes you feel safe. Someone who doesn’t judge you. Talk to such buddies. Vent out your feelings and let them know what you are going through. Feeling demotivated and being in low spirits is not unusual. Don’t keep it to yourself. If you don’t want to speak it out, just hang out with your friend. Spend time talking about any other topic. Watch a movie together, go for walks or even better- go have some of your favourite snacks! Distracting yourself and paying attention to what your friends have to say is a great way to heal yourself. A cup of coffee and a hearty chit chat may be all you need to push away those negative thoughts!
